Description:

Red is a handsome red heeler looking for a home that will provide him with plenty of exercise, stimulation, stability, and routine. He is a typical heeler who thrives with a job; without his needs met, he will become bored and resort to unwanted behaviors. Red is incredibly smart and needs someone with the energy to match his! Red's favorite activity is FETCH! Throwing a ball is the way to this guy's heart - although once the game is done, you should be prepared to lure him away from his ball as he doesn't willingly give his ball up and had a bite incident with his previous owner due to trying to take the ball from him after playing. Along with fetch, long walks, consistent training, and games/puzzles are also essential to keeping him his happiest.

Red needs a home without children, cats, and prefers to be the only dog. He also needs a human (or two) who are familiar and experienced with working breeds. He is NOT an apartment dog, or one to expect to lay on the couch all day. He IS an adventure seeker, athletic phenomenon, and SO much fun! He has been passed around between a few different homes and is looking to for a final place to land with some pretty special people. His most recent adoptive family made the tough decision to return him to our care due to owner's health related concerns as well as Red's tendencies to be very protective over his property and home - which concerned his owner's as they welcomed a young child into their family.

As mentioned above, when attempting to take away his highly desired toys or balls, he did bite and break skin on his previous owner during this attempt. He also bit his previous owner when attempting to wipe his paws off after being outside. He tends to get overstimulated and without proper outlets for his herding instincts and mouthiness, he can get very mouthy with people. Although he is around 8 years old now and has definitely "mellowed" out since his puppy years of when he was first in our care, has had multiple incidences of jumping up and nipping--it's situational and happens when he's ramped up. He needs someone understanding of this, and someone confident enough to help channel these unwanted behaviors.

If you're interested in meeting Red, please complete an online adoption application found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the application has been submitted, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to set up a meet & greet.
