Red is a handsome, purebred heeler looking for a home that will provide him with plenty of exercise, stimulation, stability, and routine. He is a typical heeler who thrives with a job; without his needs met, he will become bored, destructive, and resort to unwanted behaviors. These dogs are incredibly smart and need someone with the energy to match theirs! Red has completed a basic obedience class at a local facility and loves to learn new things. Red's favorite activity in the whole wide world is FETCH! Throwing a ball is the way to this guy's heart. Long walks, consistent training, and games/puzzles are also essential to keeping him his happiest.
Red needs a home without children, cats, and prefers to be the only dog. He also needs a human (or two) who are familiar and experienced with working breeds. He is a little reserved when meeting new people and a bit wary of strangers. He is NOT an apartment dog, or one to expect to lay on the couch all day. He IS a hiking buddy, adventure seeker, athletic phenomenon, and SO much fun! He has been passed around between a few different homes and is looking to for a final place to land with some pretty special people.
Red has a bite history. He tends to get overstimulated easily and without proper outlets for his herding instincts and mouthiness, he can get very mouthy with people. While he has never broken skin, he has had multiple incidences of jumping up and biting--it's situational and happens when he's ramped up. He needs someone understanding of this, and someone confident enough to handle such an intense dog. He is a lovebug but he has his triggers which need to be properly managed. We highly recommend working with a positive reinforcement based trainer to set him up for success, as he has incredible potential! Working on a farm would be great for him.
