Safe Haven of Iowa County Adoption Information
We firmly believe that controlling the pet population through mandatory spay and neuter of companion animals is the only way to reduce the number of pets in rescue facilities and shelters. Each year, shelters across the United States euthanize healthy, friendly, and highly adoptable pets simply to make room for more unwanted pets that will be arriving. Accordingly, it is the policy of SHIC that all animals adopted will be spayed or neutered upon adoption, or the adopter will sign a spay/neuter contract for animals that are not yet old enough for this procedure. The only exception to this policy is if a licensed Veterinarian feels that spaying/neutering the adopted pet might pose a risk to the animals health. A letter from the Veterinarian will be required. SHIC also has a policy on the declawing of cats. Please read the policy HERE After your initial submission of the adoption application, an adoption specialist will reach out to you. Please keep in mind that our adoption application process is in place for the health, safety, and welfare of the animals. We ask for your patience and cooperation in helping us make an informed decision. Applications for dog adoptions are approved based on the individual needs/characteristics of the dog being applied for; therefore a dog adoption application MUST name the dog you are interested in by clicking on that animal in the drop down name choices.
