Safe Haven of Iowa County

Gretchen (now Sophie) is a sweet lady, that was found wandering around with two canine friends in September 2013.  She was only with us a short time at the shelter before she was adopted into a home with other dogs and cats. She was very sweet at the shelter and seemed to get along with everyone she met, including other dogs and cats. Unfortunately in her adoptive home, Sophie demonstrated that she would do better as an only pet in the household, as she did not always get along with the 3 other dogs, particularly the dog that was smaller than her. She did not harm any of the cats in the household; but her people had concerns that she might, if one of them were to be the type to run from her or swipe at her. Sophie has never shown any aggression toward  any people, and was much loved by the humans in her adoptive home. Still, because she could be possessive about the other dogs being near her things, we are being cautious and suggesting that she not be placed in a home with small children. 
   Since that adoption and return to Safe Haven she was adopted by an older lady who has enjoyed her company very much for the past two to three years.  We are sad to report that Sophie's most recent 'mom' has had to go to a nursing home and is concerned that Sophie needs to find a new home.   When Sophie started living with that 'mom' in senior housing I remember the conversations with mom and how easily Sophie adjusted to her new home where she was an only pet.  Mom's family has nothing but good things to say about Sophie and want only the best for her.  
The family just called regarding Sophie needing a new home and have not brought her back to us yet, so we will update when she is available to be seen and adopted at the shelter.
