Description:
Sophie is a purebred Cocker Spaniel whose owner had to move into an apartment and could no longer care for Sophie. Safe Haven was able to find a foster home to care for her until a new forever home can be found. Sophie is 6 years old, and is used to being kenneled at night and when she is home alone. She loves to sniff around the house to see if she can find any food crumbs left behind, and loves any treat or food she discovers! Sophie loves to go play outside in the fenced in yard or go sniffing around during her walks, but she is definitely happiest inside. She really isn't a lap dog, but feels safe and secure just snuggled up against you on the couch! She will also come over and give you lots of kisses when you least expect it! Sophie's owner did let Safe Haven know that the best home for Sophie would be one with children that are at least school aged, and that she does not like toddlers. She did nip at the owner's 2 year old grandaughter. Sophie does not seem to like the cats at her foster home either, so a home without cats would be best. She has had several dog playmates in the past, but it does take her a little bit to get comfortable around new dogs. When she first meets a new dog, she will likely bark and growl as she needs time to get comfortable and feel safe when she is around new dogs, and would most likely just be happiest as an only dog. Sophie does great with housetraining if she is taken outside often, and she can go all day in her kennel and never make a mess. When Sophie meets new people or has visitors to her home she often gets very excited and will wet a little bit due to her over-excitement of a new friend giving her attention.
