Ricky came to Safe Haven from a lady who had previously bred Yorkies. Unfortunately he lived his first three years of his life in a dog run / kennel situation and didn't have a lot of experience with meeting new people, or many sights, sounds, smells, and basic dog socialization like a normal dog would encounter. Ricky was also badly needing to be groomed and updated vetting. He is only 3&1/2 years old, so he has lots of great years of companionship to offer a special family. Before coming to Safe Haven Ricky only knew life living in a dog run in a small kennel building - so he came to us pretty shy and will need a bit of time to continue to build his confidence.
After a few weeks at Safe Haven Ricky decided he was ready to make some new human friends, and began to seek affection from our volunteers! He also was in need of a good grooming, and as soon as that was done he was like a new man! Ricky now comes up to our volunteers looking for love.....and snacks! He is also used to living with at least one other small dog, so he should be okay with other dogs his size but a meet-n-greet with any other dogs in a potential new home is required. While Ricky is 100% adorable and appears like a pretty happy fella that is easy to love - all interested adopters should be prepared to work on housebreaking with him, as he is not housetrained yet. This will require establishing a routine, close supervision, and rewarding good behavior. If you feel like you may be up for a great little project pup that will require routine grooming to keep him healthy and looking his best - then Ricky may be a perfect new addition to your family - he has so much potential and really deserves to know what life as a spoiled inside companion dog is like!
