Update 4/26/23 - Sherlock has been in a foster home for several weeks now. His foster has let us know that he has been getting along well with her two Golden Retrievers, multiple cats in the house, and has enjoyed the presence of children. Sherlock was lucky enough to be able to attend a community event - where many people and kids were present... HE DID GREAT!! He loved all of the attention and soaked up every minute of it. His foster says he is doing much better with his house training and has been using her doggie door to get outside to the fenced in yard to use the bathroom when needed. Sherlock loves to go for rides in the car, and does great. A fenced in yard would be great for Sherlock as he enjoys being outdoors and loves to explore, but being a hound.. he needs to be able to explore safely without the ability to get off his property while his nose is going.

Sherlock came to Safe Haven as a stray through the Iowa County pound - after not being reclaimed, Sherlock has become a Safe Haven doggo officially available for adoption! When thinking of a name for this handsome Coonhound.. there were many great names suggested - but who could go wrong with the classic "Sherlock"?? He is a true hound. He loves to be outdoors where there are endless trails of scents to follow. Maybe that is how he got away from his past home? Sherlock may have never been an inside dog so he is working on learning his potty training manners, but is trying his best! He is great on a leash with a harness on, especially when the sun is shining and the walks are long. He can be exciteable so his new family needs to know he may accidentally knock small children down, not meaning to do harm - just a very excited boy to go, go, go! Sherlock has been vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, had a health examination with our vet, and is ready to find his forever home!

Please complete an online adoption application for Sherlock if you are interested in meeting or potentially adopting him. He is ready to have visitors anytime!
