Update 4/12/23- We have learned more about Jack - and would like to share with everyone! Jack was recently adopted to a home with a small dog & cat. He settled in well with the new environment, but became overly protective of his space, toys, and home after getting comfortable. These behaviors caused Jack to become a worry to his adopter(s) and before anything serious occured, it was decided that it was best to return Jack with hopes of finding an active home as an only pet. During his time away - Jack injured his hind leg, which appears to likely be a torn CCL (ACL in a human). Without further testing and/or exrays, it is unknown if Jack may be a candidate for surgery but being the active boy that he is, the recovery and rehab process is very rigorous and would need someone with him most all of the time during the healing process. Shelter environments can be very stressful for the pets needing homes - the same goes for Jack. We think Jack would be most successful in an active home that would be eager to take on an active boy looking for love.

Meet Jack! Jack came to Safe Haven recently as a rescue transfer due to health complications of his caretaker. Before being loved and cared for in a foster home rescue setting, Jack was found in Wichita, KS tied to a pole in front of a business building. He is a very deserving boy - and was given a great second chance at life when he made his trek to Iowa. As we have been told by his previous foster home caretakers, he is a lovebug! He is a very happy boy - but just isn't sure why his forever home hasn't found him yet. We were told that Jack gets along well with children, other dogs with appropriate introductions, but he has never had the opportunity to be introduced to cats so we are unsure how Jack would respond around cats. His previous caretakers told us that Jack may be hard of hearing (or partially deaf) - several Safe Haven staff and volunteers have also mentioned that he may be heard of hearing as well. It sure doesn't seem to slow him down one bit! Since being in our care, he has been a great boy! Any really... who couldn't love this goofball??
