Meet Rooster! Aka Roo. Rooster (then known as Sir Winter) had his first visit at Safe Haven back in the Fall (August '22) after being surrendered from his previous owners. He was used as a stud dog for breeding. After learning more about Rooster, we learned quickly that he was not socialized and was needing a patient home to settle into. He was quickly adopted by a local adopter soon after his arrival. He was soon after returned, as he was not settling in with his adopters and had escaped from their watch.
Our shelter manager had fallen head over heals for the little guy and decided to give him a try at her home. She adopted him - he settled in well with other dogs (that were bigger than him) and cats in the home. He however did not settle in well with the husband. With the presence of men, Rooster is not himself. He has been known to get growly and uncomfortable - out of fear. Fast forward almost six months, our shelter manager has made the very dreaded and difficult decision to return him with high hopes of finding a forever home for him with no men. The decision was not easy, as once Rooster is comfortable - he is the sweetest little guy and has a very fun personality that everyone should see!! Rooster has been thru many changes over the last year, and deserves a forever home to call his own ... most importantly a home where he can be himself all the time! Patience will be important for him. He has many great years of life left ahead - so please reach out if you think you may be a fitting home for this little guy. Our shelter manager knows him best, she is able to answer any questions and/or set up a meet & greet visit. There is so much spunk behind those big brown eyes!
