Duke is one fun guy - he is described as "loose, wiggly, and happy"!  He is a younger dog yet that likely has never known the love and devotion of a family that allows him to be inside their home and truly feel loved and secure.  He is food motivated and very willing to learn - he has mastered the "sit" command already. He is thoroughly enjoying his walks and does decent with a harness.  Duke is way too interested in the kitties at the shelter, and therefore we would not recommend a home for him that has cats.

Duke is a young dog yet, so his family will be rewarded with years of devotion and fun memories.  They will need patience in the beginning as they make Duke part of their family - we think he will need work on housetraining because in a shelter setting he often makes his mess in his kennel, rather than on a walk outside. Duke has been on a home visit with a family and they report that he does not appreciate time spent alone, especailly in a crate, as he did break out of two crates while at their house - so he will need a secure place in a new home that he can feel comfortable and safe in while the family is away. Duke would also do best in a home with a large fenced in yard, as he does love spending time outside and loves to have room to run around and sniff everything that a Hound loves to sniff!  We just love this big fella, and know that with a consistant and dedicated routine that comes with lots of rewards -  he will become a wonderful companion dog for a lucky family.
