Boomer is a great young dog that came to Safe Haven as a stray through the Iowa County Pound.  He was found wandering along the road between Amana and the Iowa River during the 4th of July holiday - therefore we thought he needed a fitting name and a volunteer came up with "Boomer"!  In fact we had several stray dogs over that holiday period due to all the fireworks - so we assumed Boomer's family would also come claim him as well.  However that didn't happen, so we aren't for sure how he ended up a stray, but we know he has lots of love to give, and is now ready for a forever home.

Boomer is an active fella that seems to want to play well with other dogs, but he came to Safe Haven unneutered and as far as we know, unvaccinated - so he has not been able to play with our other dogs quite yet.

His breed mix of Lab/Heeler is merely a guess, as it often is with strays - but he does seem to display a few characteristics of each of those breeds.  He seems to love everyone he meets, but would likely do best in a home without small children because he is pretty excitable and would likely knock them off their feet with his exuberance!  Boomer seems to be a quick learner, an would love to learn proper ways to interact with new people and how to become a great canine companion to his new forever family - so we highly encourage anyone interested in adopting Boomer to be willing to take him to a general dog obedience class - this will help develop a great bond between Boomer and his new family and help him learn skills to be the great dog we know he can be.
