Update 5/3/23 - Effie, now "Zena", has been returned due to her owner's health and not being able to continue proper care of this sweetie. Zena is a sweetheart looking for love. Her previous owner says she does great with kids, other dogs, most all people - she is pretty well-rounded little lady! Zena would benefit from an active family as her energy level is relatively high & she absolutely loves going for her walks multiple times a day. If you read about her below (from when she was first brought to us) you will read about her 'submissive urination'. Since being back at Safe Haven, Zena has showed some of this urinating - but with a new and somewhat unfamiliar environment this may be the cause. She is ready to find her forever home any time!

If you are interested in meeting or possibly adoptiong Zena, please complete an online adoption application found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the application is submitted, a volunteer will be in contact.

Effie came in to Safe Haven as a stray dog in the Iowa County Pound on Feb 4th - she is healthy and her coat was in great condition, so it seems likely that she had someone caring for her.  Yet sadly, nobody claimed her - so now she will be spayed, micro-chipped, vaccinated, de-wormed, and placed up for adoption.  Effie will be able to go to her forever home on Feb. 15th.

Effie is estimated to be around 1 year old, and possibly a Corgi/Border Collie mix, and is just cute as can be. She is still young and will need some work on housetraining yet and seems to exhibit some "submissive urination" , so her new family will need to be ready to work on this with her.  Effie's is a typical active young dog, and will do best wtih an active family that is also ready to do some obedience training with her.
