Shelby is a very special dog who is initially shy and sometimes slow to trust new people, but once she is comfortable with you, she is such a cuddly and playful girl! She makes the wait so worthwhile with her goofy personality!!

Shelby originally came into Safe Haven back in 2019 because her original family had young kids, and due to the special needs of one of the kids, they felt they needed to find Shelby a new home because she had escaped multiple times when the child accidentally left the front door open. Shelby's initial fearfulness does make it quite difficult to catch her once she is running.  It was so clear that she was dearly loved, and we are blessed to be entrusted with the task of caring for Shelby.

Shelby was adopted fairly quick back in 2019 and has lived the last four years with a wonderful retired woman who really loved Shelby, but sadly she has progressive health issues that required her to move from her home.  She has been loved and wonderfully cared for, and is now 6 years old and looking for a new home that can continue to spoil her.  One requirement for Shelby's new home is that there are NO CATS - she just is not a fan of the felines. Shelby is fine with kids, but she will do best with a little older kids, as loud unpredictable toddlers may make her nervous. Shelby is house-trained and crate trained. Her previous families would LOVE for Shelby to find a new home that has a fenced in yard where she can run and play safely outside and potentially shed a few extra pounds that she has gained over the past couple years! A fenced in yard would be also helpful because if Shelby gets loose it is very hard to catch her due to her shy nature, so her ideal home would be one with a fenced yard.  We have no idea what mix Shelby actually is but we have to wonder if she is also part greyhound because she is so fast and makes other dogs look clumsy by comparison!

If you're looking for a lifelong canine companion, and are willing to be patient while Shelby gets to know and trust you, please consider adopting this sweet girl!
