Safe Haven of Iowa County

Safe Haven's Mission:
The mission of Safe Haven is to rescue, protect, rehabilitate and find good homes for dogs and cats in Iowa County. Secondly, to significantly reduce the overpopulation of stray dogs and cats, and improve the lives of humans and the lives of pets through public education and sponsoring low/no cost spay and neuter programs.

Our Facility:
In 2012 Virginia Marie Hoppe (Feb.7, 1935 - Aug 8, 2016) decided her family should give the former Krauss Furniture building to Safe Haven of Iowa County and with that grand gesture she took an empty building and brought it back to life again providing shelter for pets in need of a home and providing the means for volunteers to find loving homes for abandoned or lost pets. No one was happier than Virginia when a pet found a good home.

Important Note

While sheltering stray pets is vitally important, Safe Haven of Iowa County also understands that pet shelters are not a solution to the nations animal overpopulation problem. It is essential that we:

  • Teach respect for living things
  • Reinforce the bond between humans and animals
  • Advocate for and help provide assistance to large scale spay and neutering programs
  • Teach and model responsible pet ownership

These are all things that will help us in our effort to stop the needless killing of cats and dogs in our country's shelters and pounds. We ask that our community understand that while we pamper and care for our orphaned pets, they are still missing the most important thing in their life ... a loving home and family of their own!
