Looking for an adorable, lovable, social diva to be your new sidekick? Meet Sofie! This lovely gal is a gem. She is believed to be a Miniature Pinscher/Rat Terrier blend—and she’s a lot of personality packed into an 11lb body! At 15 months old, Sofie is still young and has plenty of energy. She gives the BEST kisses and will cover you head to toe! Sofie enjoys any activity that involves her human(s)—car rides, hiking, playtime, snuggling on the couch, and learning new things are some of her favorites! She is smart, very attentive to her person, and knows her name. Sofie is athletic, driven, and can jump very high. She thrives with daily exercise and mental stimulation to keep her happy! In her previous home, Sofie was used to someone being home with her 24/7–so she does have some separation anxiety that we are working on in her foster home. Increasing her confidence and comfort being alone will need to be continued in her new home. At this point, Sofie needs to be kenneled when left alone. Someone who’s retired, who works from home, or who could bring her to work would be perfect for Sofie! She loves everyone she meets! Sofie was surrendered to Safe Haven due to some resource guarding behaviors towards the other (small) dog in the home. These incidents led to multiple bites from Sofie to her owner when they would attempt to split the dogs apart. So far in her foster home, these behaviors have *not* been witnessed—which is great! Granted, her environment is very controlled and she is always under supervision. She is currently being hand-fed and doesn’t display any resource guarding around food towards humans. However due to her history, we recommend that Sofie goes to an adult-only home with the understanding that caution needs to be used around “valuable” items. Sofie seems to love other dogs in general and is very playful, but she isn’t good about respecting boundaries (ie she gets up in other dogs’ faces to give kisses and play). In a home setting, she may do best as an only dog considering her resource guarding history. However a compatible, tolerant dog sibling would be an option with an experienced owner. Sofie doesn’t care for cats and needs a feline-free home! Sofie is loads of fun and truly will bring a smile to her new person’s face daily for years to come.
