Australian Shepherd (medium coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Medium
Meet Gabbie! This pretty gal is fairly new to the Safe Haven crew after being surrendered over to our care from her previous family. Gabbie is a true sweetheart with lots of energy & love to offer her new family. She is very intelligent - she knows how to sit patiently & shake.... especially when treats are involved!! From the information provided to us from her previous family, we believe Gabbie would do best in a home with experience with Australian Shepherd or alike working/herding breeds. Gabbie is not a fan of sharing her space, food, toys, etc. So future adopters need to keep this in mind if other pets are in her future home. She was surrendered to our care as Gabbie wasn't able to safely continue living in a home with small dogs - when food/her food area was involved, she became overly protective of this and unforunately killed the small dog. The home she lived in for over a year also had a larger dog and a cat. Gabbie did not offer to harm the other pets in her home - so her triggers for poor behaviors must be managed and carefully considered in her future home.
Gabbie can show some anxiousness around young children & would do best in a home with adults that tend to be more predictable and will understand her need for her own personal space. Having a bit of knowledge on where Gabbie originally came from, she is told to be a purebred Miniature Australian Shepherd. Coming from the working/herding family of dogs - Gabbie needs lots of enrichment in her life to keep her busy & to keep her mind occupied. She absolutely loves to play fetch - and is getting better every day about dropping the ball where desired in order to continue the fun game. She is truly as sharp as a whip! Always very attentive.
Since arriving at Safe Haven, Gabbie has now been brought up-to-date on her vaccinations, had her spay surgery, was microchipped and heartworm tested - so she is more than ready to find a fitting forever home! If you are interested in meeting this sweet girl, please complete an online adoption application which can be found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the adoption application has been submitted, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to discuss the next steps.
