Captain Krunch came to us when he was found in Williamsburg with a crushed ankle requiring splinting to mend properly.  The tip of his tail had also lost viability and was removed when he was receiving the care needed for his broken bones.  The veterinarians involved in Captain's care have told us that they can see shrapnel in the radiographs which explained the decreased blood supply due to damaged blood vessels and consequently slower healing.  We have been trying to limit Captain's access to elevated areas to minimize the impact on his ankle.   The bone has healed but there will always be an area that could be especially vulnerable.  In a home we would expect that not all elevated areas will be made inaccessible, but Captain's people will want to be mindful of lifting him down whenever possible, rather than allowing him to freely jump off of elevated surfaces.  When you meet this sweet, loving boy, you would never know that he had so many medical issues in his past.  He enjoys life with other felines and would do just fine in an active home.  Captain enjoys the soft side of life too...comfy beds, soft pets and snuggle time.
