February 2023 Update: It has been 6 months since Lucy has been back at Safe Haven. We cannot believe someone hasn't snatched her up yet .... she is the sweetest gal! Since her return, we have noticed she has mellowed out and is more of a "go with the flow" kind of gal. Many volunteers at Safe Haven think she would be the best dog to watch some old westerns with .. or maybe the soap operas?? She is ALWAYS ready to go for her next walk, and loves to be outdoors exploring! She has even had a few canine playmates, that have found their homes.. so now it's time for Lucy to find a home to call her own! Although kids may not be her type, a home where she is the center of attention would suite her just fine. Please contact Safe Haven if you are interested in meeting Lucy, she is a true sweetheart. August 2022 Update: Lucy was adopted in 2019 and has recently been returned because she has nipped at kids in her home and more seriously bit her caretaker while her family was on vacation. Since being back at the shelter, we have learned that Lucy can be protective of her food. She has logged many many miles of walking and hiking with her previous owners - even though her family loved her dearly they decided returning her to Safe Haven was best for her safety and others. With Lucy's history, a quiet home with no young children or teenagers is what we think may be best for Lucy. She can take a bit to warm up to new faces, but is a loving girl once she is comfortable. She loves a good belly rub and is always ready for her next walk! If you're interested in meeting Lucy, please fill out an adoption application and contact us to set up a meeting time! She was brought to us from Ft. Smith, Arkansas (Hope Humane Society) because they have about 400 adoptable dogs available and are looking for homes for wonderful dogs by reaching out to other rescues. Safe Haven along with another group from Western Iowa met the transport to welcome several very adoptable dogs to Iowa as the van advanced to the rescue group in Minnesota where twenty beautiful dogs would find homes.
