Look who just arrived by small plane all the way from Texas.   Pilots'n Paws volunteer pilots relayed her and a couple of other dogs for other rescue groups in Iowa this past weekend.

This beautiful young lady was rescued from being a 'street dog' so we really have no idea what her true ancestry is.   However, in doing a little research to find breeds that are blue like Indigo we stumbled across the 'Blue Lacy' breed.  Then when we Googled 'Blue Lacy Dog images' we found  pictures of puppies and adults of the breed.  Little Indigo looks just like some of the puppy images of the breed.  In the  information for the breed there was a list of other names for the breed and one of those was 'Texas Blue Lacy' while another was 'Texas State Dog'.   If you are unfamiliar with the breed (as we were) the site where we found information was https://www.dogbreedinfo.com/bluelacy.htm.

Part of the information about the breed is that it was developed in the Hill Country of Texas by the Lacy brothers who moved there in 1858.   Some historical documents indicate the breed is a mix of greyhound, English Shepherd and wolf.   The breed was developed for herding cattle and hunting wild boar.
