Meet Gabbie! Gabbie is a true sweetheart with lots of energy & love to offer her new family. She is very intelligent - she knows how to sit patiently & shake.... especially when treats are involved!! From the information provided to us from her previous family, we believe Gabbie would do best in a home with experience with Australian Shepherd or alike working/herding breeds. Gabbie is not a fan of sharing her space, food, toys, etc. - she had shown some resource guarding behaviors in her previous home. So future adopters need to keep this in mind if other pets are in her future home. She was surrendered to our care as Gabbie wasn't able to safely continue living in a home with small dogs - when food/her food area was involved, she became overly protective of this and unforunately killed the small dog. The home she lived in for over a year also had a larger dog, which she lived happily with for over a year. So her negative triggers for poor behaviors can be managed but must be carefully considered in her future home.

While at the shelter Gabbie has taken an obedience class and did great eith other dogs her size or larger. She has also gone on several outings with volunteers that adore her, and they all report how great she does outside of her kennel when she meets other dogs her size - so we just know a perfect home is out there for her!

Gabbie can show some anxiousness around young children & would do best in a home with adults that tend to be more predictable and will understand her need for her own personal space. Having a bit of knowledge on where Gabbie originally came from, she is told to be a purebred Miniature Australian Shepherd. Coming from the working/herding family of dogs - Gabbie needs lots of enrichment in her life to keep her busy & to keep her mind occupied. She absolutely loves to play fetch - and is getting better every day about dropping the ball where desired in order to continue the fun game. She is truly as sharp as a whip! Always very attentive.

Gabbie completed a series of obedience training classes with an experienced Safe Haven volunteer. Through these classes Gabbie was able to work on her obedience skills like sit, down, wait, etc. but also work on her socialization with other dogs. She has continued to work on this and has done great with several larger-sized dogs more recently. She enjoys going for walks with other dogs, preferrably dogs that are not up in her personal business.

Gabbie is up-to-date on her vaccinations, had her spay surgery, is microchipped and heartworm tested - so she is more than ready to find a fitting forever home!

If you are interested in meeting this sweet girl, please complete an online adoption application which can be found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the adoption application has been submitted, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to discuss the next steps
